A social purpose venture is one that hews to a double bottom line: it both generates income for the agency and serves as a training or employment venue for clients.

The Ladies Tea Room and Prince George Ballroom at the Prince George, and the Top of the Times at the Times Square are available to rent for all occasions.

The Doe Fund, Inc.: Back Office; www.backofficeofny.com; Part of the Ready, Willing & Able Program, the Back Office provides full mail service for Direct mail, Data Processing, and Letter Shop services for all businesses, and trains participants in trainees gain clerical experience before moving on to independent employment.

Pests @ Rest: www.pestatrest.com; Part of the Ready, Willing & Able Program, Pests @ Rests provides pest management services and employs formerly homeless people.

Goddard Riverside Community Center: Green Keepers; http://www.goddard.org/greenkprs/index.htm; Green Keepers provides horticultural and sanitation services throughout the New York City area

Hour Children, Inc.: Thrift Store and Gift Shop; http://hourchildren.org/thriftstores.aspx; The Thrift Store and Gift Shop help to furnish Hour Children’s five residences as well as the permanent homes of women released from prisons, serve as an income source for Hour Children Programs, and offer job training opportunities for the women of Hour Children and its neighbors.

Housing Works: Housing Works Gift Shops; http://www.housingworksauctions.com/; Located throughout New York City, Housing Works Gift Shops accept donations of clothing, jewelry, furniture, art and more. All proceeds go to Housing Works and support of homeless men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS in New York City.

Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter, Inc.: Emporium Online; http://www.ncsinc.org/what-we-do.shtml#emporium; Emporium Online is a joint partnership with amazon.com’s Support4thehomeless Zshop and is an online store operated by homeless and formerly homeless men and women. Emporium Online specializes in the sale of new and used CDs, DVDs, video games, VHS, books and more.

Project Renewal: Comfort Foods; http://projectrenewal.org/comfort_foods_about.html; Comfort Foods is a full catering service that helps homeless New Yorkers move from the streets to health, homes and jobs. Comfort Foods catering offer excellent food and stellar service while fulfilling an important social mission: providing jobs for graduates of our award winning Culinary Arts Training Program.

Catholic Charities of Onondaga County: St. Vincent dePaul Clothing and Furniture Thrift Store; http://www.ccoc.us/thrift.html; The Thrift Store in conjunction with the Give-A-Way program provides donated clothing, furniture and household items to families and individuals in need at little or no cost and continues to improve the Onondaga County community.

Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc.: Chautauqua Opportunities Catering; http://www.chautauquaopportunities.com/catering.html; Full catering service for business / Corporate, City & Village Agencies, COI Affiliates & Employees, Special Events, Functions, Meetings in Chautauqua County.

Peter Young Housing Industries and Treatment: Schuyler Hotel & LeMoyne Manor are full service hotels and inns that provide vocational training facilities for residents of Peter Young Housing Industries and Treatment

Unity House of Troy, Inc.: Unique Boutique Thrift Store; The Unique Boutique Thrift Store provides families and individuals in emergency situations with free clothing and household goods. It offers clothes and other household essentials at affordable prices. The shop relies on volunteers for its operation and donations from the community for its inventory. It also serves as a training site for consumers of Unity House's Employment and Training services who would like to gain necessary skills for competitive employment.

Westchester

Greyston Foundation

Greyston Bakery: www.greystonbakery.org; Greyston Bakery is a full service bakery with delicious brownies, blondies and more. Profits support the community development work of the Greyston Foundation, which includes housing, child care, health care, a computer learning center, and more. In addition, the Bakery actively recruits and hires employees that have had difficulties finding employment in the past. Greyston Bakery partners and serves a network of other businesses, such as Ben & Jerry’s and Stonyfield Farms, who share social concerns.

Westhab: Top Chef Harvest Soup; www.topchefsoup.org; Top Chefs Soup features six delicious gourmet dried bean soup mixes whose recipes were created exclusively for the company by top Westchester chefs from renowned grocers in Westchester. The soups are located throughout supermarkets in Westchester and Manhattan. Top Chefs Harvest employees are homeless heads-of-households currently living in Westchester County. In their three months of paid work for Top Chefs Harvest they learn all aspects of the production process as well as the "soft skills" necessary to become responsible employees in the marketplace (e.g. teamwork, taking direction, punctuality). In addition, they are offered a wealth of pre-employment training for marketplace employment from Westhab's renowned Employment Services team.
